The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event is taking place on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
This event provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at locations in communities throughout the country.
The reason why National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is so important is because it addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majoritymisused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The best way to ensure your prescription drugs are not used in a way that is unsafe or illegal is to dispose of them.
The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day drop-off location at The Woodlands Township Town Hall front parking lot. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) assisted by The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will collect unwanted medications at the site for safe disposal by the DEA. The DEA cannot accept needles or sharps at this event. This is a free and anonymous service; medications will only be accepted during the event hours and may not be dropped off before or after the event.
